Aval Kesari (Poha Kesari)

This is a very easy sheera, that can be made for neivedyam on Gokulashtami day. This can be made very quickly.


Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: 20 mins


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Thick poha

  • 1/4 cup Sugar

  • 3/4 cups hot Water

  • 1 tbsp Roasted cashew nuts

  • 1 tbsp Roasted raisins

  • 2 tbsp Ghee

  • 1 tsp cardamom powder

  • Orange food colouring, a pinch

Instructions

  1. In a pan dry roast the poha for 2 mins just to warm it

  2. Make a coarse powder of this in a blender

  3. In the same pan, take the powdered poha and roast it to a very light pink colour

  4. Add 3/4 cups of hot water and quickly stir it till it gets cooked (add more water if needed)

  5. Add the sugar and keep cooking

  6. Add the colour, ghee and cook till it does not stick to the sides of the pan

  7. Garnish with cardamom powder, cashew nuts and raisins
