Panchphoran Dal

Panchphoran is a bengali spice mix that is made up of 5 spices, and hence the name. This is a mix of nigella seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds in equal quantities.

Cook Time: 20 mins


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tur dal

  • 1 tbsp Ghee

  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tsp Chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp Paanchphoran whole spice mix

  • 1 tsp Amchur powder

  • Finely chopped coriander leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker add the ghee

  2. Splutter the panchphoran spice and saute till you get a nice aroma

  3. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder and amchur powder and saute for a minute

  4. Add the tur dal, salt and water and cook for 2-3 whistles

  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice and roasted potato
